Spice it up a bit!

Snow, snow, and more snow!!
We need something to liven the place up a bit so…
I borrowed this beautiful dress from the Spanish classroom and...

My students have a wonderful colorful subject to draw and paint!

I love the detail of the lace and the shadows it casts

Maracas added the final touch!

Love playing a bit in photoshop too!

So even today with the clouds and scattered snow showers
we had something fun and bright and different to work on.

3:20 am

Oh, yes it is quite early!
It is Monday morning and normally if I can't sleep I would be stressing about
Having to get up in a few hours and get myself off to work. But, the weather has made a change in my plans as school is closed today. Yes ...yet another winter storm is upon us.
So, now instead of squeezing my eyes shut and forcing myself to sleep
I am blogging!

I started blogging quite a few years ago. I need to look back through my archives to see exactly how long it's been. But my guess is about 9 years....wait I was able to scroll back and my blog was created on September 21, 2006!

Right now I'm blogging on my iPad. I love this portable little square miracle but, I haven't gotten to know how to use it as far as adding photos to my blog. So bear with me and I hope to bring some colorful and original art and photos here soon!

Have a great day my friends!

Down East…Still life

Hello my friends!!
Today we are working on a still life.
I have a yellow slicker, well worn
leather gloves and old lantern.

Wish I had some rope netting and an old lobster trap but ...I will have to do without that.

Here are some views and filters I am playing with…

The old gloves have so much character!

I love to go in and crop a small portion to work on.

As soon as I can I will show you some of the students and my drawings of this still life!

Today the winter winds are really blowing!

Brrr … But the temperatures are a bit warmer than yesterday!
Yesterday the windchill was about 20 BELOW ZERO!!
In fact school was cancelled- No one want the students out in that kind of weather.
This is the view from the gallery.
Its very snowy but seems to be a very dry and powdery snow.

This photo makes me feel chilled!
Cold grey/blue stone and snow beginning to stick.

No, I'm not a skier anymore so- I don't really have an appreciation of fresh falling snow.

However it was a great morning to have an early coffee with my co workers.
Kim brought in a mouth watering chocolate and cranberry/raisin loaf.
No matter how cold it gets I still enjoy my iced coffee

Have a great day and keep warm!!

Teaching Art and such...

Well here it is already the 21st of November!
I haven't been keeping up with my blog for a variety of reasons Im sorry to say.
First and foremost I have been away from my classroom and studio for a while now.
My sweet mother became ill and passed away late in October. I feel fortunate to have been able to be there with her.

I have been busy trying to catch up with all the responsibilities of being a teacher
and I do hope to return once again to my studio.

My parents always supported my brother and sister and I in any of our endeavors and
it is to them I dedicate my next painting. I have been working on it for a long time and now am
almost finished with it!

I can hardly wait to complete it and take some photos to share it with you!
So bear with me as I do plan to
return to writing my blog and sharing mart with you!

Hugs to you all  my friends!
Mary
